Description

HYDRANGEA a. 'Annabelle'. 3-4' tall, 4-5' spread, full sun-part shade, late spring-early fall bloom. Spectacular, big and bold snowball flowers that gradually change from green to pure white. Blooms can reach up to 12" across. A classic garden piece. Deer resistant. Blooms on new wood. Zones 3-8. Potted in 1 quart pot. Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' is an old fashioned variety, known for its huge white blooms that stay beautiful from late spring through fall. Since it blooms on new wood, many gardeners cut it back to the ground in late winter to encourage fresh growth. Spent flowers can be deadheaded to promote more blooms, or left to dry—turning a lovely shade of brown after frost and adding winter interest. Be sure to remove any weak or damaged stems right away. One of Annabelle’s best features is that its bloom color doesn’t change with soil pH, though you might notice a soft cream or faint pink tint. Whether freshly blooming or dried, this bloom is always a standout.
