Description
MISCANTHUS giganteus. 10' tall, 3' spread, full sun. Magnificent, gigantic upright clumps of wide green leaves, that is highly valued as a focal plant or a screen plant. Flower stalks soar to 12 feet! Sterile, will not sow. Plant 10 for a 25' tight screen! Deer resistant. Zones 5-9. Warm season. #1 Grade Bareroot Division.
Plants will arrive dormant. Dig a wide planting hole and place the roots and rhizomes just below the soil surface. Cover with soil, press firmly to remove air pockets, and water thoroughly after planting.
Warm season. New shoots typically begin emerging when soil temperatures consistently reach about 50–55°F (10–13°C), with stronger, faster growth once soils warm into the mid-50s to 60s°F range. Fluffy white plumes start to appear late summer to early fall. This grass gets BIG. Allow plenty of room to let this plant grow. Roots are very dense and hard to dig up once it reaches maturity. Clump will spread 4" every year once established. Water in times of drought. Fertilizer is recommended but not required.
Plant every 2.5' for a tight screen. During the first year, most of the plant’s energy goes into establishing a strong root system. In the second year, you’ll see increased foliage growth. By the third year, your plant should begin reaching its full potential with fuller growth, stronger stems, and increased height.
