Description
ALCEA r. ‘Chater’s Pink Double’. 48-72″ tall, 24″ spread, full sun, mid-late summer bloom. Bold, ruffled, fluffy, double pink flowers bloom up and down the tall sturdy stalk. Leaves are grayish green and add a course texture and pleasing vertical element to the landscape. This fast growing plant tends to be biennial, however, it self-seeds and will therefore endure for years in the garden. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Zones 2-9. Potted in 3″ pot.
Hollyhocks provide excellent architectural height in the garden and make good backdrops for lower growing perennials. Try growing them in the cottage garden style by planting them up against a wall or picket fence. Though their stalks are very strong, they may need to be staked if they are planted in a windy site.
Hollyhocks prefer rich, moist, well-drained soil but can tolerate short periods of drought. They need full sun to really perform in the landscape. Watch for
