Silvery white plumes emerge late summer to early fall. This heat loving grass is a Texas native.
It is not necessary to cut back dormant foliage during the cold months; if you do, it may be slow to recover. To keep tidy looking, break off old flower stalks when they become brittle and “comb” the plant with a leaf rake to remove dead leaves.
